The manually drawn ladder diagram can be converted into the form of an instruction table first, and then modified by inputting it into the programming machine through the keyboard.
If the designer is familiar with the operation of the programming machine and has a certain knowledge of PLC program design, they can also skip the step of manually drawing the ladder diagram and directly edit the ladder diagram program on the programming machine through the keyboard. Due to the rich editing functions of programming machines, they can easily perform program display, input, output, storage and other operations. Therefore, using programming machines can shorten the design cycle and greatly improve work efficiency.
1. Analyze the working principle of the original system
Understand the process and mechanical operation of the controlled equipment, analyze and master the working principle of the control system based on the relay circuit diagram.
2. I/O allocation of PLC
Determine the input and output devices of the system, allocate I/O to the PLC, and draw the external wiring diagram of the PLC.
3. Establish corresponding relationships with other components
Determine the correspondence between the intermediate relay, time relay, and other components in the relay circuit diagram, as well as the auxiliary relay and timer in the PLC.

The above two steps (2) and (3) establish the corresponding relationship between all components in the relay circuit diagram and the internal programming components of the PLC, which is very important for the transplant design method. During this process, several issues should be addressed:
1) The executing components in the relay circuit should correspond to the output relay of the PLC, such as AC/DC contactors, solenoid valves, electromagnets, indicator lights, etc;
2) The main control device in the relay circuit should correspond to the input relay of the PLC, such as buttons, position switches, selection switches, etc. The contacts of the thermal relay can be used as inputs to the PLC or connected to the external circuit of the PLC, mainly to check whether the input points of the PLC are abundant. Pay attention to the relationship between the normally open and normally closed internal and external contacts of the PLC.
3) The intermediate relay in the relay circuit corresponds to the auxiliary relay of the PLC;
4) The time relay in the relay circuit corresponds to the timer or counter of the PLC, but it should be noted that there are two types of time relays: power on delay type and power off delay type, while the timer only has one type: power on delay type.
4. Design ladder diagram program
According to the above correspondence, translate the relay circuit diagram into the corresponding "quasi ladder diagram", and then convert the "quasi ladder diagram" into a structurally reasonable ladder diagram according to the programming rules of the ladder diagram. For complex control circuits, they can be rounded to zero, followed by local conversion and finally synthesis.
5. Carefully proofread and debug
The converted ladder diagram must be carefully proofread and debugged to ensure that its control function matches the original diagram.
